<p>Worry people are small, rather crude (but charming) dolls, usually sold in batches of several in a bag or box. As far as I know they are particular to the Maya of highland Guatemala. Children put them under their pillows at night as a sleep aid.</p>
<p>Tradition &#8212; or the vendors of the dolls &#8212; has it that one confesses one&#8217;s worry to the doll before putting it under the pillow. Then by morning the worry people will have taken that worry away.</p>

<p>I think slingshots can be purchased from <a href="http://www.elcurandero.com/the-guatemalan-slingshot/" title="curandero gallery" target="_blank" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.elcurandero.com/the-guatemalan-slingshot/?referer=');">the Curandero Gallery</a>.<br />
I couldn&#8217;t find the book at Powell&#8217;s but <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&amp;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FGuatemalan-Slingshot-Anabella-Valia-Garzon%2Fdp%2F9992293705%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1199682057%26sr%3D8-1&amp;tag=rightreading-20&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" onclick="pageTracker._trackPageview('/outgoing/www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8_amp_location=http_3A_2F_2Fwww.amazon.com_2FGuatemalan-Slingshot-Anabella-Valia-Garzon_2Fdp_2F9992293705_3Fie_3DUTF8_26s_3Dbooks_26qid_3D1199682057_26sr_3D8-1_amp_tag=rightreading-20_amp_linkCode=ur2_amp_camp=1789_amp_creative=9325&amp;referer=');">Amazon carries it</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=rightreading-20&amp;l=ur2&amp;o=1" style="border: medium none ! important; margin: 0px ! important" border="0" height="1" width="1" />.</p>
